If you start a new site from scratch and optimize it starting from on page optimization up till off page optimization it will take at least two months to see results.

Obviously there are some exceptions and the reasons are very difficult to identify sometimes. However such factors like the number of competition for your keywords and the type and quantity of links you get all effect how fast you get rankings.

Keep in mind that if you do get a ton of links fast and you get high rankings you need to keep getting a ton of links fast or you loose rankings. That is not realistic, so there is no fast way to get rankings. Getting links which are the core of optimization slowly and steadily will allow your site to rank and keep it rankings if you keep getting links slowly and steadily even after your site is ranked on top.

If you stop getting links, your rankings won’t remain always on top. However does not mean you have to keep doing all the work. You may outsource and another advantage is that with your site ranked on top many webmasters will automatically contact you for a link exchange. Apart from that fact, you just have to get some links regularly to maintain your position. You need more links to get rankings than to maintain your site at top.

Older sites are more appreciated by search engines, so as your site gets old you have an advantage as well. The initial steps to get rankings can be classified as a bit tough but the rest becomes much easier.

This is what you need to do once you start getting high rankings:

1) Check that your link partners are still linking back to your website.

2) Add new articles once in a while, although the more you add the better as long as they are articles you create not copied.

3) Add no follow tags on certain links like terms of conditions, earning disclaimers and privacy policies. There is no need for these pages to rank high in search engines. By putting no follow tag, search engine spiders ignore them and they do not give them pr, instead they give the pr to your other important pages. If you have a high page rank website do that and you may see an increase in pr to your other pages.

4) Monitor your search engine rankings for your keywords. If a particular keyword looses ranks work on that keyword. It means get backlinks so it regains position. Use the keyword in the anchor text of each backlink but always change it a bit now and then. Changing a bit means add a word or
two different with the keyword. For example if the keyword is blue cars use variations like:

blue cars available
tons of blue cars
blue cars for sale
very fast blue cards

You got the point.

This shows that you can achieve high rankings and it also shows one other important thing to take note of. Choose low competing keywords at first. If you have a new site it is very hard to compete for high competing keywords. Once you gain rankings and pagerank start working on other keywords.

Search engine optimization provides you with monthly free targeted traffic. After initial few months you start getting traffic and then lots of it. People using Google are more likely to buy than those using other search engines so monitor your rankings on Google and aim for the top rankings.

Google is the number one search engine, buyers prefer it simple because it gives the most accurate results.

When linking to other websites from your site, you inevitably have a decision on your hands. Should you add a ‘rel=”nofollow”‘ attribute to the HTML anchor tag used to link to the third-party website, or should you leave it out (do-follow it).

In the eyes of the search engines, a do-followed link from your site is basically a vote for the site being linked to. In a way, you’re vouching for the legitimacy of the site you’re linking to. If that site turns out to be abusive, you risk hurting your site’s credibility with the search engines by linking to that site.

On the other hand, linking out to high-quality sites that are relevant to the subject matter of the page you are linking them from, is known to actually benefit your site. As long as you don’t overdo it, most search engines appreciate your letting them know that a site is worth linking to, and will give your site a little more credibility as a result. If you no-follow links to high-quality sites and pages that have content that is relevant to your site’s content, then you are basically telling the search engines, “I can’t be bothered to check that this site is worth linking to, but I’m going to link to it anyway.”, which obviously doesn’t encourage the search engines to have confidence in either you, or your site.

Of course, it’s not always possible to thoroughly vet each and every site you may link to on your website. There’s also the possibility that a site may change for the worse (or for the better) after you have visited it. The search engines understand this and will give you some leeway as a result. Nevertheless, it’s in your best interest to investigate the sites you are considering linking to wherever possible, and make an informed decision about whether you want to link to them, and how you want to link to them.

First impressions are often the best guide when you visit a new site. Does the site instill you with confidence? Does it look like the webmaster takes their site seriously, or are they just slapping up any old content, and spamming the site with keywords? Are there obvious issues with spelling and grammar, and with page layout and site navigation? Does it make you want to stay, or leave?

Is the content on the site relevant to your site, and in particular, is the page that you are linking to relevant to the page that you are linking it from?

You may also wish to check out some of the sites that the linked site is itself linking to. Are these quality sites and are they relevant to the page they are linked from? And yes, I know what you’re thinking – “Where does it end?”. A quick and cursory sampling of a small, random selection of the linked sites is all that you need, but this can sometimes tell you more than all the other factors combined. Remember that search engine link juice can flow a long way along the link chain.

If your overall impression of the site’s quality and relevance is good, then you should consider do-following it. If it is bad, or you don’t have the opportunity to check the site out, then consider no-following it.
